Brushes & Beans Cafe is a community “third place” in Murrysville that blends specialty coffee with a paint‑your‑own pottery studio. Originally opened in 2021 and briefly closed in 2024, the space was revived by former employee Zoe Stratos, keeping its role as a welcoming, creative hangout intact. Whether guests come to paint, sip coffee, or simply be somewhere that isn’t home or work, Brushes & Beans is designed as a low‑pressure, high‑comfort space where people can slow down, make something, and feel part of the local community.
Website, Branding
For Brushes & Beans Cafe, I created the brand and website from the ground up, blending the cozy vibe of a neighborhood coffee shop with the playful, hands-on feel of a paint-your-own pottery studio. I designed the logo, signage, and overall visual identity using a natural, artsy color palette and a fun display typeface to capture both the café and artist sides of the business. The website carries that look and feel through simple, approachable UI, sketch-like secondary graphics, and photography that showcases both ceramics and espresso in equal measure.
On the UX side, I focused on making it easy for visitors to do the things that actually matter: check out the drink and food menu, explore pottery options, browse the gallery, see upcoming events and musicians, buy gift cards, and make reservations for parties or groups. For a small delight, I built the homepage hero so it randomly swaps between a set of three hero images on each visit—giving returning users a slightly different first impression while still highlighting the core experience. Overall, the site is designed to feel playful, artistic, and welcoming, mirroring the in-person atmosphere of sipping coffee while you create something by hand.
